With over 30 years experience in the Perth original music scene, The members of ZFD honed their craft playing hundreds of gigs during a career that spanned the late 80's, all through the 90's and into the 21st century. Chris, (Crit) and Trev, having played in variations of the same band together since their late teens have supported some big name acts such as Moody Blues, Joe Satriani, Howard Jones, Icehouse, Ian Moss and Spy vs Spy to name just a few. Along with Dave, they are all founding members of 'The Palace' an abandoned warehouse in Perth CBD that they leased and converted it into a home, studio and live venue for displaced original artists in the early 90's. On any given night the Palace would come alive, sometimes with upwards of a 100 guests and impromptu jam sessions were the norm, (between their own band practice), with the many musicians who frequented this place of worship.

These jam sessions would on occasion kick on for a few days and The Palace was well known as a hang out for anybody who held creativity and originality sacred. Trev, Crit and Dave took time off during the early 00's to pursue their own interests, but it did not take too long for them to start 'jamming' on occasion with Dave back in 2008. In 2009 after having jammed now and then for over a year, they decided to formalise the jam sessions into a band and Crit came up with a band name he had been throwing around for years - Z Flat Demolished.

With a band name came the need for better gear and as luck would it have their time off had nourished careers and they were no longer starving artists. The ability to buy what they needed ended up with them converting Dave's 90 sqr meter man shed (Best one in Perth he would have you believe), into a recording studio, with everything including a pool table, (which ended up being the guitar case holder). You can check some photos here. The studio was named after Dave's ugly cat - The Manky Sam.

Over the next 5 years, and with limited time to pursue their creative side ZFD wrote, composed and recorded over 20 songs. Ensuring the sound never remained staid, or the production sallow, ZFD made it a point to invite various guest muscians to the Manky Sam to stamp their own influence on each track. Whether it was a soaring riff or a slide guitar dancing mayflowers around a simple rhythm, ZFD always focused on the detail. (Guest Artists)

They also produce, mix and master their tracks, each one a testament to the one that came before and the one that followed. Each song has subtle nods to the artists that inspired them. A melancholy note reminiscent of Pink Floyd or a squelch of the insane that hints at Led Zep. With 20+ songs already down, many more on the white board and driven by their lyrics and simple tones ZFD are a creative quintet happy to let their music fly on its own merits. ZFD are not currently playing live gigs, but that is about to change.

Shaun (Sab), an old accomplice from The Palace days who, after twenty years travelling, found himself back in Perth and keen to catch up with the old crew. A mean guitarist in his own right Sab has joined them to make the trio into a quartet. Shaun has assumed creative control over Bass. With a penchat for hard rock bands such as G n R, The Cult and Skid Row. Shaun has brought a gritty feel to the rhythm section.

This past year has also seen them add a new member to the band, Mike Deegan. What started out as initially a collaboration, has turned into something a little more permanant. The synergy between the band and Mike was such that he was formally asked to join the band as a full member.
They have known Mike for a few years, but, unbeknownst to them, Mike was harboring a dark secret.
He was, in his own right, an accomplished musican. Self taught Mike has been tinkering the ivory keys since childhood.
As Trevor said after one of their early sessions with Mike, "He just gets it, his intution in regards to what we are trying to portray is sublime"
Mike has added another level of intensity to the bands creativity, allowing them to experiment with sounds and rhythms beyond Bass, Drums and Guitar.
